T.P.Rajalalakshmi is the first South Indian Actress. she started her career with 'kalidas'(1931). It was the first South Indian talkie film,which was directed by H.M.reddy. She played Princess Vidhyadhari role in this movie.She got big break in this movie.
Rajalakshmi was born in 11 November 1911 in the 'Saliyamangalam village' Tanjore district of the Madras Presidency and was married off at the age of six. Rajalakshmi decision to act in movies for a living caused her conservative husbend to divorce her.During the making of ‘Valli Thirumanam’, At the age of 20 Rajalakshmi fell in love with and married T.V.Sundaram.
She joined a drama troupe and acted in stageplays.She learant dance and music.she have a good voice. She was the first female member in kannaiah nayudu theatre, later she popular with the kalidas movie. she was not only the first south Indian actress,first female Director,Producer and dialogue writer also. 'Miss Kamala'(1936) is her first film as a director. It was a hit movie in her career. She acted nearly 25 films.She passed away (1964) at the age of 53. Tamil Film Industry celebrated her 100th birthday grandly and honored her family members.she was honored by the title "Cinema Rani" and the second one is that, she was also awarded the title "Kalaimaamani", for which the Legendary Actor M.G.R sent this car and P.A to our home to pick us up for the Awards Issued venue.
